Why am I asked for a verification code? (One-Time Password, OTP)

For security reasons, you'll sometimes be asked for a 6-digit code (also called a one-time code or OTP) before a GetAccept document opens. The code protects the document and everyone involved, because it confirms that the person opening it has access to t

When will I be asked for a code?

  • After the document is signed. You need a code to open a signed document.

  • When you come back to a document you first opened 30 or more days ago. You won't be asked if we recognise you from a code you entered recently.

This applies to everyone the document was sent to, including people in copy and approvers. Document links often get forwarded or stay in old emails, so the code makes sure a link on its own isn't enough to open a signed or older document.

How to enter the code

  1. Open the document from your email or link, as usual.

  2. A page called Authenticate to access document appears. It shows where we'll send the code: part of your email address, or the last four digits of your phone number.

  3. Click Get PIN-code.

  4. Check your inbox for an email from GetAccept (noreply@getaccept.com). If the code was sent by text, check your phone.

  5. Type the 6-digit code and click Validate.

  6. The document opens.

A code works for 5 minutes and allows 3 tries. When you ask for a new code, the old one stops working.

Good to know

  • Where the code goes: always to the email address or phone number the sender added for you. For a signed document, we send it by text message if the sender only added your mobile number. Nobody can have it sent somewhere else.

  • Signed documents: once you've entered the code, you can reload the page without needing a new one.

  • Coming back after 30 days: you never need a code the first time you open a document. After you enter one, you won't be asked again while that visit is still verified, or for the next 30 days as long as we recognise where you're opening the document from. The 30 days only start again when you enter a new code, not when you open the document.

  • When there's no 30-day code: if the sender already asks you to prove who you are when you open the document (with a text message code, BankID or another electronic ID, or a password question), or has switched on Identify new viewers. You also won't get it if the document was sent to your phone only.

Didn't get the code?

  • Check your spam or junk folder, and search for noreply@getaccept.com. If your company's email system holds it back, ask your IT team to allow emails from getaccept.com.

  • Wait a minute between requests. You can ask for up to 10 email codes an hour.

  • Click Resend code, or reload the page and click Get PIN-code again.

  • If the code goes to an old or wrong address, contact the sender.

  • If a text message doesn't arrive, check that your phone has signal and can receive texts from other countries. See SMS countries.

If you see Wrong code please try again or contact the sender, check that you typed the newest code.

For senders

There's no setting to turn either check off. If you already ask recipients to prove who they are when they open the document, or you use Identify new viewers, they won't get the extra 30-day code. This code is separate from SMS verification for signing, which you choose for each recipient when you send a document.
