Require BankID before a recipient opens a document

How to make a recipient verify their identity with Swedish BankID before they can open a document.

You can require a recipient to verify their identity with Swedish BankID before they can open a document. The check is tied to the recipient's personal identification number, so only that person can see the content. This article covers how to set it up, what your recipient sees, and how it works alongside your signing method.

Before you start

  • The add-on is enabled on your account. Verifying with BankID before opening is a paid add-on, available on all plans. Contact your GetAccept representative to add it.

  • Your recipient has a Swedish personal identification number. You enter it when you set this up, and the recipient needs Swedish BankID to verify.

Require BankID for a recipient

  1. Open your document and go to the Recipients tab.

  2. Click ⋯ next to the recipient and select Edit recipient details.

  3. Under Verification method, check Electronic identification on open.

  4. In Personal identification number, enter the recipient's number: 12 digits, no hyphen (YYYYMMDDXXXX).

  5. Click Save.

The eID provider shows BankID Sverige. It's currently the only provider for this check, so there's nothing to choose.

You can also add or remove the check after the document has been sent.

What your recipient sees

When your recipient opens the document link, they see Identify yourself to access the document instead of the document, with the message "The sender requires you to identify yourself with BankID before the document can be opened."

They can verify in one of two ways:

  • Scan QR code: open the BankID app on their phone, tap the QR symbol and point the camera at the code.

  • Open BankID on this device: opens BankID directly on the device they're using.

The document only opens once BankID confirms it's the person whose personal identification number you entered. If verification fails, they see an error message and can try again.

How it works with your signing method

Verifying on open and the signing method are separate settings. Verifying on open controls who can read the document. The signing method controls how they sign it.

That means you can:

Limitations

  • Swedish BankID only. Other eID providers, such as MitID or the Finnish Trust Network, can't be used for this check.

  • Your recipient needs a Swedish personal identification number. Recipients without one can't verify this way.

  • It can't be set on a template role. Set it on each recipient in the document instead.

If your recipient can't open the document

  • Check the personal identification number. The document only opens for the person whose number you entered. If it was mistyped, open Edit recipient details, correct the number and click Save.

  • Check they're using Swedish BankID. Other eIDs aren't supported for this check.
