Timeline for Deal Room

View all events and activities in your Deal Room chronologically. See who accessed content, participated in chat, and completed actions.

What the Timeline is

The Timeline is a chronological record of all events and activities that occur in your Deal Room. It captures every action taken by participants and the sales team , from when participants first visit the room to when they read content, leave comments, contribute to the Action Plan, upload files, and sign embedded contracts. The Timeline gives you a complete audit trail of deal progression and buyer engagement throughout the entire sales cycle.

Note: The Timeline captures all participant actions and is valuable for audit trail purposes.

The Timeline is valuable for understanding how seriously participants are engaging with your content, which sections they prioritize, and when key moments happen in your deal. This data helps you identify stalled deals, recognize hot prospects, and track the buyer's journey in real time.

Pro-tip: Use Timeline data to identify stalled deals and prioritize hot prospects in real time.

How to access the Timeline

To view the Timeline in your Deal Room:

  1. Navigate to your published Deal Room

  2. Click Analytics in the upper right corner

  3. Select the Timeline tab in the Analytics panel

Types of events logged in Timeline

The Timeline captures the following event types:

  • Participant visits , When a participant opens or re-enters the Deal Room; includes timestamp and participant name

  • Page views , Which pages the participant viewed and when; helps identify content focus and priority

  • Section engagement , Time spent on specific sections; indicates content resonance

  • Chat messages , Messages sent in the Deal Room chat; includes message preview and sender

  • Comments , Feedback left on specific content sections by participants

  • Action Plan updates , Tasks created, assigned, or marked complete in the Mutual Action Plan (MAP)

  • File uploads , Files added to the Files tab by either the sales team or participants

  • Contract events , If contracts are embedded in the Deal Room, signing-related events appear (e.g., contract opened, signed, status changed)

  • Meeting interactions , Recordings added or viewed in the Meetings tab

Information displayed per event

Each event in the Timeline shows:

  • Timestamp , Exact date and time the event occurred (in your entity's configured timezone)

  • Participant name , Who performed the action (external participant or internal team member)

  • Event type , What action was taken (e.g., "Viewed Page," "Left Comment," "Signed Contract")

  • Content affected , Which page, section, or file was involved in the event

  • Event preview , For comments and chat messages, a preview of the content; for other events, contextual details

Click on any event to expand and see full details. For example, clicking a comment event displays the complete comment text and which section it applies to.

How to filter events in Timeline

Use the Filter controls at the top of the Timeline panel to narrow down events:

  • Filter by Participant , Select one or more participants to see only their actions

  • Filter by Event Type , Show only specific actions (e.g., only "Viewed Page" events, or only chat messages)

  • Filter by Date Range , Specify a start and end date to view events from a specific time period

Filters work together , combine them to answer specific questions like "What did Sarah view between June 1-15?" or "Show me all Action Plan updates from the entire team."

How to use Timeline data for deal progression

The Timeline reveals crucial signals about deal health and buyer engagement:

  • Engagement momentum , Frequent visits, long session times, and activity across multiple pages indicate high buyer interest. Long gaps without visits may signal a stalled deal.

  • Content focus , Which pages and sections participants spend the most time on tells you what matters most to them. Repeated visits to pricing or contract sections suggest they are moving toward decision.

  • Team collaboration , If multiple participants from the buyer's company are viewing and commenting, the deal is gaining internal momentum. Solo participation may indicate you're reaching only one decision-maker.

  • Action Plan progress , Completed MAP tasks and mutual accountability show the deal is advancing. Overdue or uncompleted tasks can signal bottlenecks.

  • Communication quality , Active chat and comment use indicates transparent collaboration and faster problem-solving.

Note: Participants cannot see Timeline or Analytics , only your sales team can view this data. This ensures full transparency in your engagement tracking without making buyers feel monitored.

When events appear in Timeline

Events are logged in real time as they occur. As soon as a participant opens the Deal Room, views a page, sends a chat message, or completes an action, that event is captured and visible in your Timeline instantly. There is no delay or batch processing , you can monitor deal activity as it happens.

Historical events from before the room was published are not logged. The Timeline begins recording from the moment the room is published and shared with participants.

Viewing and exporting Timeline data

You can export your Analytics data, including Timeline events, for external reporting or deeper analysis:

  • Navigate to your Dashboard or Dealboard

  • Use the export options in Reports to download engagement data in CSV format

  • Timeline data is included in comprehensive reports and can be filtered by date range before export

Exported data is useful for presenting to your management team, forecasting deal closure likelihood, or integrating with your CRM for automated workflows.
