Buyer suggestions let a recipient propose new wording, request a deletion, or leave a comment right on the contract. You as a sender stay in full control: nothing changes until you accept it and publish. This article covers turning suggestions on, how buyers use them, and how you review and respond.
Note: Enable comments is on by default. Enable suggestions is off by default, so you need to switch it on before buyers can suggest changes. While suggestions are off, recipients won't see the suggestion tools or the first-visit guide.
Turn on suggestions
You can enable suggestions for your whole account, or for a single contract.
For your whole account (admins only)
Go to Settings › Document settings › General.
Toggle on Enable Suggestions (Enable Comments should already be on).
This applies to all documents automatically, so there's nothing else to save.
For a single contract
A document-level setting overrides the account default, and any document owner can change it on their own contracts, even without admin access.
If the contract is still a draft: open it, click the ⋯ (More) menu in the top right, choose Settings, scroll to Comments & suggestions, toggle on Enable Suggestions, and click Save.
If the contract is already Sent, Viewed, Reviewed, or Sealed: open it, switch to the Document Settings tab, scroll to Comments & suggestions, toggle on Enable Suggestions, and click Save.
Note: Suggestions rely on comments. If you turn Enable Comments off, Enable Suggestions turns off too.
Good to know: Suggestions work on contracts built in the GetAccept editor. They are not available on the eSign plan.
How buyers suggest changes
Once suggestions are on, anyone with a role in the signing process (a signer or approver) can mark up the contract. No GetAccept account is needed.
The first time they open the contract, recipients see a short guide, "Review and suggest changes," explaining the three options. To mark up, they select any text and pick one of three icons:
Add comment — ask a question or leave a note for you.
Add suggestion — propose new wording in place of the selected text.
Suggest deletion — flag text that should be removed.
Note: Recipients can withdraw a suggestion or comment on their own suggestion, but they can't edit it once it's submitted.
Note: Suggestions apply to the contract's text content. Recipients can comment but can’t suggest changes to pricing tables
Review and respond
Open the contract and click Comments and suggestions in the top right.
Switch between the Comments and Suggestions tabs.
Click any item to jump straight to it in the contract.
For each suggestion, choose Accept (✓) or Reject (✕), or add a comment to discuss it first.
Pro-tip: To adjust the wording yourself, use Edit content (the pencil in the top right).
When you accept a change while others are still pending, a banner appears: "You have unpublished changes." Keep reviewing as long as you like. Once you've handled everything, click Publish changes (or Discard to revert to the previous version).
In the publish window, the message to your recipients is drafted for you automatically by AI. Review or tweak it, then send.
Note: When you reject a suggestion, GetAccept emails the recipient to let them know the change was declined, showing the original and the suggested text with a link to open the contract.
See what changed
Both you and your buyer can open version history (the history icon in the top right) to see every published version and exactly what was added or removed.
Note: Version history covers the contract's text content. It doesn't include pricing tables or attachments.
