Create and configure Contracts

Creating a contract in GetAccept is now a clearer, more guided experience. The updated create flow walks you through choosing how to start, setting up your document details, and adding recipients before you land in the editor, so you can spend less time figuring out what to do and more time moving deals forward. This article explains how to create and configure contracts with the updated flow.

How the new create flow works

Instead of a single, crowded create modal, the updated flow gives you three clear starting paths and walks you through setup step by step. You handle the key details upfront, which means fewer adjustments once you reach the editor.

The flow follows three steps:

  1. Choose how to start your document.

  2. Set up the document details, such as document name, company name, and signing settings.

  3. Add recipients.

Once these steps are complete, you land in the document editor almost ready to send.

How to create a contract

Step 1: Choose how to start

When you create a new contract, you can choose one of three starting paths:

  • From a template - start from an existing contract template.

  • Start from scratch - build your contract from a blank document.

  • From a PDF - upload an existing PDF file.

If an admin has restricted contract creation to templates, you'll go straight to template selection and won't see Start from scratch or From a PDF. This is controlled by Restrict creation to templates in Document Settings and applies to regular users only. Admins and managers still see all three paths.

Find the right template

When you start from a template, the All templates list shows a thumbnail of every template, so you can recognize the one you need by how it looks. You can also switch to a compact list and filter the templates to narrow them down.

  1. Next to Search for templates, select the Thumbnail icon for cards with previews, or the List icon for a compact list.

  2. Select Filter.

  3. Choose Owner or Document type.

  4. Select one or more values.

GetAccept remembers the view you used last. Filters reset each time you create a new document. To clear a filter sooner, open Filter and deselect it.

Note: The view and filters apply to the All templates list only. Recently used templates and your folders stay as they are.

Step 2: Set up document details

After choosing your starting path, set up the document details. This includes information such as the document name, company name, and signing settings.

Note: If you start from a template, the document name may already be filled in.

Admins can set a default document name on the template using merge tags, so it populates automatically with details like your company name, the recipient's company name, the date, and the document ID. For example, a template called "Sales EMEA purchase order" might produce a document called "T3chFlow purchase order for Acme Corp - Jul 24, 2026". You can edit the name before moving on if a specific deal needs something different.

Step 3: Add recipients

Add the people who need to receive, review, or sign the contract. Adding recipients is now a dedicated step in the flow, so it's clear who the document is going to before you move into editing.

Step 4: Finish in the editor

Once setup is complete, you land in the document editor with most of the configuration already in place. From here, you can finalize the content and send your contract.

Pro-tip: Doing more setup upfront means less rework later. Taking a few extra moments at the start usually saves time across the full contract creation process.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the document name already filled in?

If you started from a template, an admin may have set a default name using merge tags. It pulls in details like the company name, date, and document ID automatically, and you can still edit it before sending.

Which details can appear in the document name?

A template's default name can include the entity name, the recipient's company name, and the date.

Can I filter templates by more than one owner or document type?

Yes. Select as many values as you need. Filters also combine with each other and with your search.

Will GetAccept remember my view and filters?

GetAccept remembers whether you last used Thumbnail or List view. Filters reset each time you create a new document.
