Adding Discounts and Taxes

Explains how discounts and taxes are applied and calculated at the product, group, and total level in pricing tables.

Updated yesterday

Pricing tables support discounts and taxes at different levels so you can control how pricing is calculated and presented. Discounts can be applied to individual products or entire Pricing Groups, while taxes are managed from the Pricing Summary.

Discount levels in pricing tables

Discounts can be applied at two levels:

  • Product-level discounts, which affect a single product row

  • Pricing Group discounts, which affect all products within a group

Both discount types are reflected immediately in group totals and the Pricing Summary when visible.

Product-level discounts

A product-level discount applies only to the selected product row.

Product discounts:

  • Can be entered as a percentage or a fixed amount

  • Reduce the product’s Amount value

  • Are shown inline on the product row when visible

Product-level discounts are best used for one-off adjustments or custom offers.

Pricing Group discounts

A Pricing Group discount applies to every product within that group.

Group discounts:

  • Are configured from the Pricing Group formatting settings

  • Can be entered as a percentage or a fixed amount

  • Are calculated after product-level pricing but before taxes

Group discounts are useful for bundles, packages, or service categories.

Tax configuration and behavior

Taxes are managed from the Pricing Summary at the bottom of the pricing table.

Tax settings allow you to:

  • Add tax as a percentage or fixed amount

  • Show or hide tax-related rows in the Pricing Summary

  • Display subtotals before tax

Taxes are calculated after all product and group discounts have been applied.

Calculation order

Pricing tables follow a consistent calculation order:

  1. Product prices and quantities are calculated

  2. Product-level discounts are applied

  3. Pricing Group discounts are applied

  4. Taxes are calculated on the adjusted subtotal

This order ensures transparent and predictable totals.

Pricing Summary visibility

The Pricing Summary controls which totals are shown to recipients.

You can show or hide:

  • Subtotal before tax

  • Total tax for pricing groups

  • Discount rows

  • Final total

Only visible and enabled items are included in the displayed totals.

Recipient experience

Recipients:

  • Can see applied discounts and taxes when they are visible

  • Cannot edit discounts, taxes, or calculation settings

All discount and tax controls are editor-only.
