What buyers see when you use comments

Comments let you highlight text, start threads, and resolve feedback directly inside a Deal Room. This article explains exactly how comments appear to buyers, how they’re notified, and how resolved or removed text is handled.

Overview

Comments allow you and your buyers to discuss specific parts of your content directly in the Deal Room. They work only on text-based editor sections, not PDFs or uploaded files, so ensure important content is built using the Editor.

Comments are visible only in published rooms, and buyers see them in a lightweight, unobtrusive format.

How buyers see new comments

When you add a comment:

  • The buyer receives a notification (email or 6-hour summary, depending on their settings).

  • Inside the room, they see:

    • A small comment indicator next to the highlighted text

    • A prompt to View comment

When they click View comment, the comment panel opens on the right side, showing the full thread.

How buyers reply to a comment

Buyers can respond directly in the comment panel:

  1. They click the highlighted text or comment indicator

  2. The comment thread opens on the right

  3. The buyer types a message and clicks Send

All replies stay threaded in one place for full context.

How @-mentions appear to buyers

When you mention a recipient using @, they see:

  • Their name highlighted in the comment

  • A notification pointing them to the exact thread

  • A “Go to comment” button that scrolls them directly to the highlighted text

Buyers cannot @-mention people who are not part of the room.

How resolved comments appear

When a comment is resolved:

  • It disappears from the page

  • It remains fully visible in Comment history

Resolved comments never disappear, they are preserved for transparency.

What happens if you edit or remove text with comments

If text containing a comment is changed or deleted:

  • The comment remains in Comment history

  • The highlighted text remains, but may show a “text removed” state

  • Buyers can still read the full original thread

This prevents losing context after content updates.

Permissions buyers have

Buyers can:

  • View comments

  • Reply to comments

  • Be @-mentioned

  • See resolved threads

Buyers cannot:

  • Create comments on behalf of the seller

  • Delete comments

  • Resolve or reopen comments

Summary

Buyers experience comments as a clear, contextual, and collaborative tool inside the Deal Room.
They can read, reply, and follow threads easily, and tag other participants in the room to notify them directly.
